By now, someone has got to be asking why these guys are writing about the subconscious mind. As mentioned, this book/program covers the what, how and why. The subconscious is a major element of the "why."
Why are under served communities the largest percentage of consumers in America but have the least? Why do poor and under served areas repeatedly self-sabotage themselves and their families? Why are drugs and violence so rampant in poorer areas? Why is music that celebrates negative images and derogatory behavior toward women so popular in poorer communities?
The human mind operates on conscious and subconscious levels. Your conscious mind is defined by things that you are currently aware of. Surprisingly, it only controls about 5 percent of our actions. Your subconscious mind is like a huge memory bank. It permanently stores everything that ever happens to you, and its capacity is almost unlimited. By the time we become adults we have permanently stored the equivalent of one hundred times the contents of a complete encyclopedia. Every moment that we are awake, our five senses take in volumes of information.
The experiences are stored as memories, like computer data, similar to a hard drive. Our conscious is similar to the keyboard and the subconscious would represent the hard drive.
Humans have five types of brain waves: delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma. Without going into a full-blown neuroscience course, let's focus on theta brain waves. They are strong during internal focus, meditation, prayer, and spiritual awareness. It reflects the state between being awake and sleeping and is associated with the subconscious mind.
During a child's first seven years, they are almost exclusively in a state of theta. In essence, they are constantly taking in their surroundings. That's how they learn the socialization of the family, things like what is appropriate to be a participant in their family and their general surroundings.
The theta stage is very receptive to information that is downloaded in our subconscious mind, regardless if it is positive or negative. For better or worse, once programmed in the mind, it is virtually permanent. This explains why psychologists seek information about a person's past when assisting with professional counseling.
Nearly all deviant behavior has its origin in the subconscious. Also, many times when people are engaged in derogatory behavior, they are not necessarily aware of the level of dysfunction.
A classic example is a gang member stating how they are going to kill someone because someone infringed on their territory. Of course, mature rational humans are left scratching their heads and realize one man shot another man over territory neither own. Just perplexing! Therein lays the point. If these gang members grew up in dysfunctional homes and were constantly reinforced with negative imagines and derogatory behavior, that is what their subconscious regards as normal. Early childhood socialization is so very important.
